US Presidential Election 2024 - Trump vs Harris - Vote Hard with a Vengence

I dread to think what all of this means for Ukraine as well as many of the other Eastern European countries. With Trump being subservient to Putin, the Russian Bear is about to become the Monster of Europe.
Trump being subservient? Seriously? You said that? He's already been POTUS for four years. Nothing of the sort happened then and it won’t happen now.

How about you give everyone at least one day of peace and fun, poking at each other over the election and reflection, before launching on a four year attack of doom and gloom conspiracy theories. I would suggest everyone try do the same. Do we really have to dive straight back into the cesspool these threads become or can we just take a breath and relax for a bit?

Nothing, you say? Nothing proven, maybe, but there's a lot of information pointing to Trump having provided Russia with the names of western intelligence assets, for example.

Something doesn't add up.

In 2020 Biden had 81 Million votes, Trump had 74 Million votes.
In 2024 Harris got 66 Million votes, Trump got 71 million votes.
15 Million Democrats decided to sit this one out?
3 Million MAGA Republicans decided to sit this one out?

What?
Trump down votes- I'm sure Kevin is not alone in turning his back post Jan 6/ Documents etc.
Harris down votes? My guess is his handling/ denial of COVID was a massive motivating factor in voter turnout in 2020. Hospitals overwhelmed, people dying- that's a top of mind, universal, galvanizing issue. But that's in the rearview. There's nothing that pervasive currently:
Abortion- Harris Presidency can't reinstitute Roe vs. Wade
LGTBTQ - that's a Dem base cause, not a swing voter one
Jan 6, Documents handling- old news/ nerd stuff
Ukraine- old news, half a world away

Heck- I'd even point to Trump being off Twitter+ not being the incumbent = generally less visible to non-committed voters.

From what I've seen of Donald Trump he cannot be a fascist. I don't think he's that sophisticated.
A thug yes , sleazy certainly , narcissistic definitely. Sociopathic probably.
Buckle up kiddies, the world is in for a wild and terrifying ride.
God , I really do hope that I wrong about the above.
He's already done the job and it didn't happen then.

You'd think it was 2015 and people have no memory.

This election must be one of those traumatic episodes, so bad, that the brain refuses to acknowledge it happened.

To come to that assumption, you ignore a lot. Such as:

-"a small incursion is ok" - Biden
-"after election I can be more flexible" - Obama

Both of those presidents had Russian aggression in Ukraine on their watch.

During 45's term, Russia did not touch Ukraine.
I think Obama, Trump and Biden have all been afraid of doing what it takes to stand up to Russia. Americans are terrified of getting into another major conflict and possibly world war. It just shows how Americans are both tired and have not learned the lessons of history. Actually I blame all three presidents for not providing true leadership where it really matters most. But Trump seems to be the one most willing to turn a blind eye to what Russia intends to do. And down the road Americans are going to end up paying a heavy price for how they have voted in these dangerous times. Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.

Please. You're sounding desperate already. You have four years to come up with something truthfully substantial.

Trump is what kept Russia in line from 2016 - 20. It was Biden that couldn't hold the leash.

So, is he going to try and change the constitution so that he can serve a third term, or will we actually be done with him in four years?

Wow... When did the left become the war hawks?

Trump to Reshape US Economy With Tariffs, Crackdown on Migrants

Donald Trump is returning to the White House, and the US economy is in for a wild ride.

The former and soon-to-be next president has promised an escalation of tariffs on all US imports and the biggest mass deportation of migrants in history. He also wants a say in Federal Reserve policy. Many economists reckon the platform adds up to higher inflation and slower growth ahead.

Trump also promised sweeping tax cuts during the campaign that culminated in his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. His ability to deliver them may hinge on the outcome of a House contest that remains in doubt, even as Republicans won control of the Senate. A divided government would require the new president to bargain more intensively with Congress over fiscal policy.

Still, it’s Trump’s tariffs — which he’s threatened to slap on adversaries and allies alike — that stand to have the biggest impact on the US economy, analysts say. The self-proclaimed “tariff man” enacted duties on about $380 billion in imports in his first term. Now he’s promising much wider measures, including a 10% to 20% charge on all imported goods and 60% on Chinese products.

Trump says the import taxes can help raise revenue, as well as reduce US trade deficits and re-shore manufacturing. What’s more, as Trump demonstrated last time he was in office, a president can enact tariffs essentially single-handedly.

So, if he puts 60% tariffs on Chinese products, I’m guessing that China will just stop shipping products to the US.

We use a lot of “made in China” products, so where is the shortfall coming from? And how much will they cost? Will the US public appreciate paying more due to that?

And will China (and other countries) then introduce equivalent tariffs to the US?

It’s been a while since I took business courses but this doesn’t sound like a great idea.

Harris isn't POTUS for a number of reasons. However, being a visible minority, and a woman has also factored in.

Few care about her skin colour or genitalia.

They care far more about her competence and ability to relate to ordinary people, or, rather, the complete absence of any as she has clearly demonstrated.

How was her performance in the last Democrat leadership campaign? Democrats didn't want her, either.
