Ideally you're supposed to feel the effects of the gas before you put on your mask, I believe, but if you can get away with it just hold your breath and put it on as soon as you get in. I hate to give away my easy-ways-out.

While you're in the business of joining a reserve unit in Halifax, don't forget 1 Field Regiment..The Artillery! That's my regiment, though I'm in Yarmouth in the 84th Indep. Fd. Bty.

Does anybody know if this incentive applies to reserve force or just reg? Also, how aboriginal would one have to be? Would just having Native status and a "green card" do it? This may apply to a friend of mine.

It depends on if you're going on a weekend BMQ or just 21 straight days. (That being because on a weekend you may potentially make 3 full days pay every weekend for 10 weekends = 30 days, compared to the 21.) Anyway, you might expect to make between $1500 and $2500 depending on the circumstances.

I've never heard of QL5, (although I'm new), but as far as I know QL4 courses are Driver's, Comms, Command post tech, etc..

I'm a bit confused about the rank insignia for Generals. I thought it was the one thick bar, but then saw photos where it was the swords, crown and leaves. So now it is my understanding that my latter description is what is worn on the epaulette. So where is the big bar used? Anywhere? Thanks...

We have 2 new Officer Cadets in our unit, and I was wondering what are the proper things to do around them. Do they get called Sir? And they don't get saluted, right?

Ah, these are funny. Some of my own.. Sgt: "Pte! Do you have a 14 inch xxxxxxx? ...around?" And that joke went on throughout the course, that Pte became known as "xxxxxxxxxx". Same Sgt: "Don't look at me with love in your eyes and **** in your pants.." Heard that one many times from him...

It's all about your attitude going into it, I'd say. During my BMQ, which just ended a few weeks ago, I never had a notion of quitting. I enjoyed the challenge and adventure. Just keep in mind nobody's trying to harm you, only make you better and see what you're capable of.

An entirely new discussion could be spawned from this one, regarding what would change if, for lack of a better explanation, we became "unroyal".
