Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

I get it. She'd rather win the election than lose. I'm looking at it from an ethical and moral point of view. With all the bleeting Liberals did about women losing their rights and the dangers of "maga conservatives" they should be racing to take up the mantle to protect Canadians.

We all know it's not about Canadians, it's about them.
Nah. She has the long view.

She may not be intelligent but she is smart.

I spent 5 years in CFD - 3 of them working in the Future Force Directorate.

I Didn’t GAF about anything that was happening in Horizon 1 or even H2 for that matter. Anything that CJOC was doing today, and tomorrow, including kinetic shit - That was someone else’s job. I lived my day-to-day 15-30 years from now. Every single day.

It can be about Canadians and not have to be about the price of eggs. Has nothing to do with morals. Women’s rights has been an issue since before I was born in 1973 and will for sure be after everyone in this thread is dead. Someone has to occupy that space.

I don’t think she is that person, but today is already tomorrow, and has been since yesterday, in the grand scheme of things.

This could be a two and a half horse race between Carney Freeland and Clarke.

Freeland is the opposite of Trudeau: smart, accomplished, but a terrible politician. I could see her turning off a lot of people.

Carney is much the same but politically untested. I could see him being Iggy 2.0. I would be surprised if he was interested in being the leader of a rump and being involved in doing the work to rebuild a destroyed party.

Clark is a dark horse. As much as I think she would be a disaster, she has a lot going for her. Not only is she a “blue Liberal” who had nothing to do with the current government, but she has also governed a large province and can mix it up with blue-collar workers in her heels and hard hat. She has also done something that John Turner and Kim Campbell didn’t do: brought an unpopular governing party from the brink of death to victory against the pollsters’ forecasts When she did lose, she still had more seats and votes than the NDP who had to form a coalition with the Greens.

Don’t take this as an endorsement! I think she would be a disaster, more because of her ethical flexibility and chumminess with Beijing. She was willfully blind to the money laundering in government casinos and the effects it had on house prices because she only saw the boost this activity gave to the economy.

I don't think anyone who's a credible future PM will run... They see the brick wall ahead and want to let someone else be Wile E Coyote.

While we on this forum may think so the average Canadian has ZERO clue about the Nazis or the SS.

Consider this - my wife had no knowledge of the concentration camps the Nazis established nor of the deaths that occurred - 6 million at minimum. And I am very sure my grandkids have zero knowledge of this.
Sadly true.
But for me, as someone who has been to Auschwitz, Auschwitz-Birkenau, Terezin (Theresienstadt), Dachau, Westerbork and Buchenwald, the memory is always fresh.

I had my children watch both 'The Pianist' and 'Schindler's List' before we took them them to Prague, where my wife and I meet while working in 1995/96, for our 20yr wedding anniversary in 2019. We took them to Terezin and the Lidice Memorial, as well as a tour of the old Jewish Quarter in Prague. We have no family connections to the Holocaust but I wanted them to understand, as much as an 11 and 13yr can, what had happened in the past, During a trip to DC that my son and took in July of 2021 he specifically asked for us to tour the US Holocaust Museum, so something must have sunk in for him.

If we could never again use the term “mating pair” with regards to any of the members of Parliament, that would be lovely.
mating pair - Trudeau and Freeland. :D

My wife and kids know about this. We have made sure of it as the schools tend to avoid it.

Well, technically, one certainly f@#$%^&*()ed the other (verbally, in any case), so there is that ....

Meanwhile, Team Red's Leadership Vote Committee seems to be at work already ....

I would consider a youth/HS grad program to send Canadian young adults on an eye-opener travel tour to some places to help give them a wider world view. One cannot tour Auschwitz or the like and not have an appreciation of evil in the world.

I can already see the headlines: “Federal govt using govt funds to send kids to party in Europe”
