As Donald Trump’s march to the White House nears its culminating point, it seems clear that he is going to try and change the dynamics in the Ukraine war by enforcing a ceasefire on Russia.

Hitherto, Putin may have believed that Trump would be his saviour after his disastrous Special Military Operation, which has cost nearly a million casualties for Russia thus far, is going rapidly “south”.

But rhetoric coming from the new administration suggests that Putin must accept Trump’s offer or look down the barrel of all the military power the US has at hand, and he is smart enough to know that would be the end of him in the Kremlin. Failed dictators in Russia rarely collect their pensions.

The details of the ceasefire that Trump will impose are yet unclear, but both he and former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, have suggested that British troops should form the core of the force to monitor and enforce this peace. This appears to be coordinated verbiage, and hence even if Keir Starmer is yet to comment there is strong feeling that there is mileage in this proposal. Once Whitehall and Westminster get over the ignominy of orders from Trump and Johnson, they should realise it’s a pretty good and viable idea.

...the UK could be the framework nation for command and control and other Nato countries like France, Germany, and Finland will provide combat troops to cover various sectors of the frontline. It is important to have Nato troops controlling the ceasefire buffer zone, as the Russians will understand the fire power available behind the frontline.

The issue I have with some of these articles is the term peacekeeping -- they are more peacemaker/peace-enforcement forces - as while they may occupy a "Green Line" between the Ukrainian Forces and the RuAF, I don't think anyone should be kidding themselves that they aren't combat forces - and most likely will be billeted on the Ukrainian side.

I suspect that while British Ground Troops may be at the core, that everyone in NATO is going to be asked to contribute, and the real power behind it will still be the might of the US Military, even if our troops are not on the frontline.

Never gonna work. 1000+ km long DMZ -with 10,000 troops (unlikely) is 1 soldier every 500m 24/7 on an OP.

And 'Peacekeepers' from NATO countries might be an issue for Russia...
It’s important for Russia to understand no one gives a fuck what they care about. Reportedly President Elect Trump‘s envoy has told Russia it’s either a ceasefire and NATO forces in Ukraine at the DMZ or they’re giving Ukrainians a lot more stuff, additionally Russia other enemies will be supported and give equipment to hurt them.

A great idea.

Let's call them something other than peacekeepers then.

Hmmmm... how about 'Peace Makers'. Then the US troops can issue a new Colt sidearm in honour of the mission ;)

How does this fit the Putin's Puppet narrative? (Not directed at you specifically)

This is what I expected of Trump.

What are they going to do about it?

Realistically if the US had put troops in Ukraine and said if a single American dies in this invasion we will be at war, Russia would never have invaded. Instead the US pulled out it's troops beforehand basically giving Russia the green light to invade.

Russia can't fully fight Ukraine a country everyone figured would be taken out in 3 weeks by Russia, there is no chance in hell they could take on NATO. If they don't like it thats tough.

Just added a small detail.
